Individual Auto Transport Doesn't Have To Be A Nightmare

By Mindy Inman

Searching for an Auto Transport company can be challenging. Because most car owners don't typically use an auto transport service, they may not know what details to focus on or what questions to ask. Although there are many factors to consider, the types of trucks and trailers used during transport is one of the more important things to think about.

Automobiles are usually transported by two key types of trailers. One is the enclosed type of transport while the other is the open type of transport. Obviously, the enclosed trailer provides a good amount of protection while the open type of transport leaves cars open to outside elements.

Furthermore, vehicle transportation is often carried by either tractor trailers or hotshots. Hotshots and tractor trailers can be transported by either enclosed or open trailers. Choosing one over the other has its pros and cons.

Hotshots are small trucks similar to pickups. Only one vehicle at a time can be transported by a hotshot because they are smaller in size. Hotshots can deliver a car more quickly because they do not have to load multiple cars or wait for empty spots to be filled.

Yet, hotshot transportation can wind up being more expensive. The car owner will incur all expenses for shipping the single car. However, hotshots have the capability to deliver directly to the car owner's home because they are smaller and can navigate through residential streets.

Three to twelve cars can potentially be shipped at once depending on the size of the tractor trailer. Naturally, the more vehicles needed to be shipped, the less expensive it will be because such fees will be distributed among the number of customers. For cost effective service, auto transport companies need to fill their trailer causing a delay in service because they need to collect enough vehicles.

A drawback to shipping with tractor trailers is that they will not be able to deliver to residential areas due to their size. In order to pick up their automobile, a patron may have to meet the tractor trailer at a large lot nearby. Some clients, depending on their preferences, may find this to be an inconvenience.

Tractor trailers may also ship a single vehicle in instances such as the size of an auto will not fit a hotshot truck. Whether it is because of car size, modifications, characteristics or even the preferences of the client, the solution can be arranged with the car transport provider. Despite being more expensive, the cost of shipping your vehicle this way is worth the added safety.

There are different schools of thought on whether it is better to store a vehicle on the upper or lower level of a tractor trailer. A possible hazard of storing a car on the lower deck is that cars from the higher deck may drip fluids or oil onto them. Components of the outside surroundings will be more subjected to cars on higher levels.

When transporting autos, the type of trailer used will be subject to the inclination and requirements of the vehicle owner. While the quality of services may justify the cost, others can be costly. Understanding the options you have will open up the opportunity for you to make better decisions about auto transport
