Do Solo Ads Really Work?

By Gary G. Brown

Solo ads is undoubtedly an great strategy to build your list of readers. They are my personal favorite list establishing approach next to ad swaps. And in fact, you probably should start with solo ads before trying ad swaps, because they will be a lot more efficient at helping you build your primary subscriber base.

Let's start out with the fundamentals of what a solo ad is before anything else. A solo ad is an email delivered to the entire list which contains only your offer (and is authored by you from beginning to end). It isn't an ad contained with an email and it doesn't even have to be written like an ad. With a solo ad you've entered into an agreement a list holder and they've consented to let you email their email list.

So just why is this so much more reliable than other forms of marketing with email?

Because you manage the process from start to finish. You're not competing for the reader's interest with other commercials included in the email. And honestly, when you examine your own mailbox and evaluate some of the e-mail lists you've signed up to - which advertisements do you usually respond to?

Because it's your responsibility to develop a catchy subject line that results in a high open rate (that's the amount of people really opening up your email to examine the information).

Precisely what are some tips for undertaking successful solo ads?

Probably the most successful technique for solo ads is to start out with a strong subject line. I've noticed the next few kinds of subject lines have outstanding open rates - (you'll see not any of them are salesy and all of them are very conversational in approach).

*Controversial Themes that contain terms like "Warning", "Caution", "Scam', "Alert" *ex. "CAUTION: This email is ludicrous" *Absurd sounding subject lines such as: *WTF did he do now?? *stupid YouTube video I can't stop watching *Subject lines with numbers in them *5 tips for developing your list *3 traffic solutions that are better than google

Once you've got an excellent subject line - you can shift gears completely to discuss your offer.

The ideal way to view building a list is as a long haul investment. So start out with small promotions to entice people. Think about the ads as a means to get more people on your own opt-in list. If you are offering them something they need, they'll be more likely to join!
