Important Information About Metal Buildings

By Adriana Noton

Maybe you do not know, or maybe you do, but your house is, in a certain amount, made of metal. Mostly, this material is used for the fundamental structures, for the basic structures, so the weight of the building will be sustained. This material has many attributes. For metal buildings, the most preferred material is steel.

The main reason which for the material used for a building is steel is because it has great properties. On the one hand, steel is rough, and hard to reshape. This is because iron is the major component of steel. The other fundamental component of steel is the carbon, which actually makes the difference between a good, rough and strong steel, and a soft, easily bended steel.

During the medieval times, when all the citizens, actually mostly the men, wore a sword by them, the blacksmiths were producing steel in their own furnaces. They were famous for the weapons they could make, and so the steel was different from one blacksmith to the other, until the perfect formula was found. Today we have factories to replace the drudgery, and now no one has to endure the high temperature the steel has to.

Because steel has the perfect proprieties, it is used today in constructions. The sky-scrappers that we see around, the tall and small buildings, they are all made of it. Bricks and glass are just some covers, just like the paint is for the wall. The inside matters.

Metal buildings have some advantages compared to other constructions. Firstly, the material is much stronger and rougher than any other, so the building is also much more resistant than, for instance, one made of wood. The resistance is given by the big density the material has, so the molecules are close one to each other, and they have a much stronger grip, so this material can absorb more intense shocks and impacts.

The high resistance that the steel-made construction have implies more things. Firstly, the durability increases very much because of it. The roughness this material has influences the durability very much, because it is less likely for it to crack or deteriorate in any way. Also, the shock absorption is a lot higher, and the impact damage is considerably lowered.

At the bottom of any construction lays the plan. Every plan starts with the skeleton of the building, which is always made of steel pieces that are attached one to each other by large screws. You may have seen buildings being built while you walk around a park, or in the centre of the town. If you watch the construction progress carefully, you will see that the thing every construction starts with is the skeleton of the building.

The metal buildings have proven to be superior, and against earth-quakes, and other natural disasters, the resistance of these constructions is dominant over the resistance of a construction made of any other material. Today, these buildings house a lot of the population of the planet, and many feel safe under the steel roof, because they know that it all has been done after an architectural plan, with honest and hard-working workers, and they are sure that nothing bad can happen to them, because they are under the protection of a big metal shield.
