Using Free Article Directories Directories for SEO, Web Promotion, and Traffic

By Victor Carl Krumm

Using free article submission directories for SEO is a long standing strategy for building inbound links to a website. When sites have a large number of inbound links, including some from quality directories, they have a tendency to climb higher in the search engine results.

For best results, authors should produce high-quality content with the right balance of search keywords before submitting articles to directories.

Engines scan for often-searched keywords. Authors should place their keywords in the titles and first paragraphs of articles for maximum exposure to the engines. That said, authors need to avoid keyword stuffing (over use of keywords). Many search engines will ignore, and article directories will reject, articles stuffed with keywords.

It is recommended that a keyword should normally not make up more than 2-3% of the words in the article.

Many free directories will only accept high-quality, relevant copy. Content must be easy to read and making use of proper grammar and punctuation.

Articles may be submitted by hand or thru software or services. Automatic submission is faster, but some directories have the ability to recognise and reject articles which are poorly spun by software. A good subscription service may provide the best of both worlds by spinning one article into many unique versions and then submitting a different version to different directory websites.

For the fastest results, it is highly recommended to sign up for a service that offers both spinning capabilities and automatic posting to hundreds of article directories and blogs.

Improved search results are only some of the benefits of articles. The article itself may draw traffic back to a site even if the site isn't highly positioned in Google,Yahoo, or Bing's search results. Also, articles are inexpensive when acquired (or free if penned by the web master himself), permitting the writers to brand themselves as experts on their subject, while presenting important information concerning products or services.

Climbing up the search results requires time even after authors have submitted a number of articles to many directories. The good news is that, once articles are accepted by a directory, uses may take an article and publish it on their own websites or blogs, thereby increasing exposure for the original web site and getting even more one way back links.
